Major Project

This page describes introduces the major project that took place during the second year of the Master of Fine Arts in Lighting Design.

Motion capture is a popular technology in the video game and film industries. This thesis investigates its use in live performance. Motion capture is still in its infancy in live performances.

The project consists of making a portable sensor system that may control a 3D Model within Blender. Through Internal communication it may revolutionize the way digital entities within live shows behave and are perceived by the audience.

The main objectives for the project are:

  • Scrutinize the idea of live control of 3D models.
  • Investigate its potential and application in the Live industry.
  • Output a set of processed data with X, Y & Z integers directed to modify any kind of value in the animation program.
  • Observe the sensor control rotation values of model.

On the page below is recorded the development of the project including testing phase.
